Séamus: Ascending to Leadership in the ISBA House of Delegates
The House of Delegates is a significant body within the ISBA (Indiana State Bar Association). It serves as the State Bar’s legislative voice. Recently, KGR partner Séamus Boyce has been elected as the Chair of the House of Delegates.
The Role of the House of Delegates Chair
The Chair of the House of Delegates comes with a set of responsibilities and privileges that underscore its importance within the State Bar. The Chair
- Presides over the House of Delegates, ensuring that meetings and discussions are conducted in an organized and orderly manner;
- Makes appointments within the House, enabling the smooth functioning and decision-making of the House;
- Serves as a member of the State Bar’s Executive Committee and is also a part of the Board of Governors.
Impact on the State Bar’s Board of Governors
The Board of Governors acts as the State Bar’s board of directors and is crucial in shaping the direction and policies of the ISBA. As a member of the Board of Governors, Séamus helps:
- Determine the State Bar’s policy in between the meetings of the House of Delegates;
- Oversee fiscal affairs, ensuring that the State Bar’s financial health is maintained;
- Employ and oversee an executive director who executes the Board’s decisions;
- Supervise and manage the State Bar’s properties and assets;
- Enter into contracts that benefit the State Bar and its members; and
- Ensure the smooth execution of the State Bar’s policies and programs.
Involvement in the Executive Committee
As a member of the Executive Committee, Séamus is a part of a team that supervises the affairs of the State Bar between the meetings of the Board of Governors. The Executive Committee ensures that the State Bar’s vision and goals are being met, and it can make important decisions when the Board of Governors is not in session.
