You are here: Home / Practice Areas / Election Law

Free and fair elections are fundamental to a free society. While election integrity issues have recently drawn increased media interest, at KGR we have focused on important election law issues for years. KGR’s election law team has decades of experience handling election and voting disputes.

Our team includes a former Speaker of the Indiana House of Representatives (Brian Bosma) and a former Parliamentarian of the Indiana General Assembly during 2004–2006 when Indiana adopted and defended its landmark photo identification law (Bill Bock).

KGR attorneys have appeared on numerous occasions before the Indiana Recount Commission and the Indiana Election Commission and have handled election cases at all levels of the federal and Indiana court systems, including before U.S. District Courts in Indiana and Wisconsin, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, Indiana trial courts, the Indiana Court of Appeals, the Indiana Supreme Court and filing a petition for certiorari to the U.S. Supreme Court.

KGR attorneys are regularly consulted for advice on election matters and have represented candidates, elected officials, election boards, governmental units and voting equipment vendors. We have also served as special redistricting counsel to many units of government and advised candidates on campaign finance issues.

Our cases have involved:

  • State and federal election and campaign finance laws
  • Federal voting rights act
  • Constitutional standards
  • Election contests
  • Recounts
  • Redistricting
  • Ballot placement issues
  • Election boundary disputes
  • Election management matters

We follow and understand developments and trends in election law, write on election law matters and are frequent speakers on these topics.

We know from experience that election disputes frequently arise and must be addressed within a narrow time window. To be effective, election law attorneys must be well versed in advance on complex election law issues, able to respond quickly to short deadlines and have the experience and sensitivity to understand and successfully address unique media and public relations considerations. Whatever your election matter may be, you will find a listening ear on our team with the experience to handle complex election law matters.

Contact our team: Bill Bock, Brian Bosma, Ted Nolting, Kevin Koons and Steve Runyan.
