Student Misconduct, Due Process, and Discipline

Students are guaranteed Due Process rights by the U.S. Constitution, which are supported and impacted by codifications into state law. While these rights are not unlimited, understanding them is crucial to successful resolution in cases of student misconduct.

Tune in to KGR Education Law & Policy Attorneys Séamus Boyce & Keith Butler as they highlight key information that school leaders should be aware of when dealing with student or employee discipline for misconduct, including:

·         Survey of existing caselaw on 14th Amendment protections for Substantive and Procedural Due Process

·         Indiana statutes governing suspension and expulsion procedures

·         Considerations for cases of bullying and harassment in schools

Program length: 1 hour of course content

 About the Presenters:

Séamus Boyce is a partner who leads the KGR Education Law & Policy Practice Group. Séamus provides effective and efficient counsel, frequently advising clients on day-to-day issues and navigating clients through the Indiana Statehouse.
