Our friend and colleague Syd Steele passed away in May. Our broken hearts go out to his children, Susie, Betsy, and John, and to Syd’s grandchildren.
Syd had a long and distinguished career before joining KGR in 2003, and we are blessed he was our colleague the last 18 years.
He was everything you would want in a co-worker and friend.
He treated his clients, colleagues and adversaries with a level of civility and honesty we should all aspire to. The legal community is losing a lion and a legend. We are losing a friend who earned every accolade that will be shared about him and more.
He was so much more than just a great lawyer. He was an ever-present smile, a deep laugh and cowboy boots. He understood the work was important but life was to be lived. He traveled, he played cards, he used his season tickets, he gathered with friends and family. He lived in the big and small moments. He had no pretense; he had no airs. It’s no surprise many of his clients became his friends over his 50 years of practice. And they grieve just as we grieve.
We give thanks for having known Syd. For the many ways in which Syd befriended us and taught us to always live life zestfully. We were blessed by every moment Syd was with us. We pray for his children and grandchildren, for whom he cared so much, was so proud of, and spoke of so often. We pray for his wide circle of friends who will experience an irreplaceable loss at his passing.
And we resolve in Syd’s memory and by his example to live with more joy, more energy, more caring and more purpose.
Our time here is too short. We love you Syd.
